Despite his family’s wishes that he become a diplomat, Christian pursued his passion for art and began his career in fashion under the tutelage of designer Robert Piguet. In 1946, he founded his own fashion house, and quickly became known for his feminine and elegant designs. His first collection, dubbed “New Look,” revolutionized women’s fashion by introducing an hourglass silhouette with a nipped-in waist, full skirt, and soft shoulders.

The Dior Legacy:

Since his first collection, Christian Dior has made a significant impact on the fashion industry, paving the way for future designers to follow in his footsteps. He introduced the concept of luxury ready-to-wear, making high-end fashion accessible to a wider audience. His legacy also includes creating the iconic Lady Dior bag, inspired by Princess Diana, and expanding his brand to include cosmetics and fragrances. Today, the Dior brand is synonymous with timeless elegance and sophistication.

The Future of Dior:

After Christian Dior’s sudden death in 1957, the brand has continued to evolve under the direction of several notable designers, including Yves Saint Laurent and John Galliano. Currently, the artistic director of Dior is Maria Grazia Chiuri, the first woman to hold this position. Chiuri’s vision for the brand is focused on promoting female empowerment, diversity, and inclusivity. Under her leadership, Dior has continued to push the boundaries of fashion, while still staying true to the legacy of Christian Dior.
